HEARTSHAPED CAKE

Ah Yat Tian Xia (阿一天下)

Our 1st time here. Cow n I both had this set but we picked 2 dif types of rice dishes.
Verdict:  value for money. im not expecting East Ocean kind of quality given tt EO's
set meals per pax can range for $70+ to $140+ ( those we tried ).

Erm, perhaps they cld use pick another kind of serving bowl? this 1 looks real el
cheapo IMO.

Abalone Rice with Soy Sauce. Quite an OK dish. Lovely accompanying dip sauce.

Baked abalone with fried rice.  I Dun fancy the burnt bits, so i promptly scraped them
away. The gravy was a lil bland, fried rice was really forgettable.

Dishes come in 2 choices: with or w/o abalone

Similarly, Desserts also come in 2 choices: with or w/o bird's nest.

Hubs ordered 2 with bird's nest. But i muz say they're exorbitant. these 2 bowls cost
him $30, but they come in huge portion. Deserts were not bad :)

AKASHI @ VIVOCITY

FINALLY!!!!   FINALLY!!!    i hv the appetite to indulge in sashimi!!!
Poor hubs had to acc me to Akashi 3xs within 1 wk juz to satisfy my craving for
it *LOL*  The waitresses asked how come we had not patronized them for so
many mths. Well........ i had to explain tt i puking my guts out for 4 mths, now tt
MS had subsided, its time to 'PARTEEE'!!!  heheheehe
Juz some random pix....

We hv a habit or ordering the same stuff over n over again. V unadventurous pple.

Hub's Wakatori +  my Nigiri Soba set. I love the soba here!!!

This lil bugger was air flown fr Jap n reached the restaurant the very day. So its
uber fresh!!!

ISAKI SASHIMI.  $52 for this plate, but i can assure u its the freshest ive ever had!
Excuse me for saying this.... we once had a $100+ sashimi platter at some upscale hotel jap restaurant n the quality doesnt even come near to AKASHI's!

Salmon Belly $25. We've always ordered the normal salmon sashimi, so we decided
to try their salmon belly which cost $5 more. Suffice to say, after the 1st bite ( tog with lots of wahhh, yummmmm, hmmmmm ), we'll be ordering salmon belly in future.
It juz isnt the same :P

Scallop Sashimi. This 1 is dif.... v al dente and... its actually sweet!

The remnants fr the scallop sashimi. V crunchy, but i dare not put the blackish stuff
into my mouth

THE LINE ( SHANGRI-LA )

Maybe Cow n I are getting on in years, we no longer find buffets tt enticing. But tt
doesnt mean we've totally stopped going for them :P
The Line is a place where we'll head to at least twice a yr cos of the variety.
Oh, i didnt even realise they stopped issuing Shang Dollars since mths back....

Oysters---- too heavy handed with the salt. It was Marine Harvest Nite, yet the oysters were hardly 'exciting'

Thankfully, the rest of the dishes were not bad at all

ETNA ITALIAN RESTAURANT

Carrot + Tomato Soup. Love their soups.

Crab Meat Salad. Serving portion was so big, we were almost stuffed by the time
our mains arrived

We also ordered Risotto alla Marinara & Norma Pizza. Sorry no pix of these as
i was too hungry by then to rem to snap away :P

PU TIEN @ TAMPINES MALL

my folks r fans of this restaurant. Waitress asked if we wanted
to try their HAIRY CRABS since its in season now.... at $38 each,
they're pricey, not to mention, DARN SMALL.... but hubs ordered
2 to try.

2 waitresses spent almost 5 mins preparing the 2 plates below.
Not an easy job fr wat i witnessed. tts y im not into crabs.... i
like fuss free food :P

HEARTSHAPED CAKE

1)   THE LINE @ SHANGRI-LA
had dinner there yesterday.... it was packed alright, except the food didnt quite
measure up...... it wasnt their Marine Harvest Night ( thurs ), which serves more
       varieties IMO.... but @ $160 ( including taxes ) for a buffet dinner for 2, i seriously
think we've been ripped this time round.
We were fans of THE LINE for a long time (u can click on my tags to see more
pix). However, yesterday's experience was amazingly disappointing....
Frankly speaking, i only enjoyed 3 items yest..... Lobsters, Oysters and Tiramisu

       The Desserts looked inviting rite?

well, looks can be deceiving... only the Tiramisu was good.... the rest of the selection
simply CMI.... i suspect while trying to churn out aesthetically pleasing desserts, the
      chefs had overlooked the taste......
The ones i tried tasted WAY TOO WEIRD. The dif tastes juz dun gel!
... 1 mouth was the last.....

Even the sashimi ( which ive always enjoyed ) was an absolute let-down.... i rem
the sashimi during our numerous visits previously were of such gd quality....
Over at the mee station, the prawns were overcooked.... the mee was soggy....
YUCKS!! the person manning tt station looked like a teen ( did i mention he had
      the SIAN look? )

My fave waiter Kelvin had been transferred to room service dept, while the familiar
faces which i recog were gone......  In their place, u get young waiters who give
me the impression they hadnt been tt well trained yet....  side plates were not
cleared despite it being very obvious tt everything on tt plate had been ' eaten '.

All in all, a disappointing returning experience this time round... im not sure if
we'll be back for their 3rd Anni Dinner Buffet.....

2)  Pizza Hut

1 gripe:  the crayfish pasta used to come with lots of shrimps... well, apparently,
shrimps are gettin expensive these days? as i hardly see them ...
ive eaten the crayfish pasta  4 times since they introd this dish,
n i regret to say, they're really pinching the ingredients this time round.

3)  FISH & CO

Hubs n i each topped up $5.50 for a complete meal on top of our main courses...
We each had a serving of the seafood chowder soup.... hmmm, standard slipping
unfortunately.  Hub's Silver Cod was great tho, i loved it!  My CLAWFISH pasta
was the most horrendous tasting pasta ive ever eaten. The pasta was undercooked, and the tomato sauce was so runny !!  The clawfish was ok though... N-E-V-E-R
ordering this EVER!  *grrrrrrrrr*

4) FERRAGAMO VARINA UPDATE

I called Ferragamo some time back to reserve a pair of Red Varinas.
SA's were not sure of the colours which they'll bring in, but they said they'll
keep a look out for my 'red'. i went on the net n found a chilli red which is
sold at Neiman Marcus stores... erm, if tt is the red they hv, i guess i'll still
take it....  SA called me few days ago to say they do hv a red, but its a kind
of red they weren't expecting... HUH???!!!??? she said they hv a pair of
fuschia though... so i requested she reserve both red and fuschia...

This was the conversation i had with hubs on our way to work early in the
morning ( b4 we hopped down to Paragon to view those shoes )

Labbit:       Dear, Valentines Day is coming rite?  ( i know his 'SOP' :P )
Cow   :       yeah, dun tell me u dun wan the usual stuff?
Labbit:       How u know wat i was going to say?
    Cow   :       U want a bag?
Labbit:       Nope, a pair of shoes.... classic shoes...
Cow  :        But shoes r worthless, jewellery can keep.
Labbit:       Erm, i really like this pair of shoes...
Cow  :        *furrows his brows a little*  u sure anot?
Labbit:       Of cos, if i calculate wat u got me last yr with the price of the shoe,
Its twice cheaper! see? im helping u to save!
Cow :         *furrows his brows even further*

In the evening, b4 i met up with hubs, i bot Feb's issue of FEMALE mag, n i was
so excited to see a pair of CHERRY RED VARINAS!!!! it was the prettiest colour
ive seen!  when hubs arrived, we walked into the shop, n SA's brought out the red
and fuschia which they reserved for me.....
They were rite, the red indeed looked weird... it was a red with grey undertones...
The fuschia was nice but difficult to match outfits... i din like the yellow, black was out
as i wanted a pair of coloured flats...
When i queried abt the cherry red, they claimed it wasnt in the catalogue which
they've received.... the manager made a call, later informed me tt the cherry
red was a press release pix.... its not available, n they wont be carrying it in their
stores... HUH??????
I was 'devastated'.... hubs cld sense the disappointment in me.

Hubs       : dun be like tt leh, do u want to try other stores?
Me          :  dun bother as they won't carry the colour i want anyway.
Hubs      :  Is there sth else u want? lets go take a look?
Me          :  I really like tt pair of shoes leh....
Hubs      :   Any chance of buying it overseas?
Me          :   Nah, its a press release.... weird rite?
Hubs      :   So do u still want yr 'usual stuff' ?

Erm, i din ans his last qn *heheheh*
He bot me some comfort food when we split up to do some shopping,

He knew i love mint chocs & raisin chocs.... very sweet of him to comfort me, but my
waistline wld suffer tho  *HAhahah*

5) MUJI
Ignorant me never knew Muji had a store in Paragon!

The cleansing oil was abt $10 after 20% disc... seaweed shampoo costs $19.
The cleansing oil was runny, so i wasnt expecting much... but to my surprise, it
took everything off in a jiffy!!!  after rinsing, skin doesnt feel greasy!! im def gettin
more bottles when i visit Paragon again.   The seaweed shampoo smells great!
Im not using the eye lash curler... i juz wanted the rubber pad for my old eye lash
curler ( which gives the best fit ever )....

6) PRETTY FIT
A pair of shoes in time for CNY :P

7)  Some clothings fr assorted stores

Fr far, i tot the poodle was a stick on.... till i realised those were silver sequins!

My CD 5 colour eye palette isnt here yet.... Hmmmmm

5TH ROM ANNI: Breakfast @ THE LINE

  • Dec. 23rd, 2007 at 8:28 PM
LIPS

We're fans of THE LINE's dinner buffet, esp their Marine Harvest Nights on
Thursdays....  Though we've stayed in Shang b4, but its the 1st time we're
having brekkie @ The LIne,..... Previously, i rated Ritz as having the best
brekkie among the hotels we've stayed in.... well, THE LINE juz beat Ritz
by a slight margin. IMO, in terms of selection n quality, THE LINE is hard
to beat..... hubs n i were in for a HUGE surprise this morning, as the
selection was HUGE!!!

thai fish cake/ omelette pizza with pork, tomato egg, asparagus with mushrm/
dim sum/roast pork/grilled cod fish

kimchi/seaweed omelette in jap sauce/vege

 Seafood noodle soup with spinach
noodle.... ingredients were SO FRESH!

THE LINE is the only place where they
prepare the pancake upon request.... the pancakes in the places i tried were ready made,
n by the time u eat them, it was slightly cold, n not as tasty... but this was dif!

I was surprised to see Black Sesame dessert
early in the morning, but it was good.... not those powder type tt u buy off the shelves... tastes
great!

THUMBS UP for the brekkie fr The Line !

HEARTSHAPED CAKE
Hubs n I are regulars at THE LINE... why? Cos they offer the best buffet in town! nevermind the price, wat u get here is top notch quality n top notch service. If u ever dine at THE LINE, ask to be seated in the section where CALVIN works..... he's really out of this world!!!
I have combined a series of pix which i took at the line... too lazy to post in dif posts, so might as well do a combo *LOL*
Hubs n I love their AquaMarine night on thurs... normal buffet is 67+++ i think? but on thurs, u pay 88+++ per pax for free flow of drinks ( champagne too ) and enjoy LOTS OF seafood and.... ALASKAN CRAB!!!!!

1st series of pix

2nd series of pix

I MUZ COMMEND THE LINE FOR THEIR SUPERB QUALITY OF FOOD.... THIS IS TRULY THE BEST BUFFET ARD!!! RITZ'S GREENHOUSE DOESNT
EVEN COME CLOSE MAN!!   Hb decided to makan here as he skipped lunch ( so he needed to pig out ) and THE LINE HAS NEVER DISAPPOINTED US....
During our 2nd visit, we were attended by a waiter called Calvin. His service was tops! he'll recommend us their specials n we din even nid to call out for him...cos he seemed to be always ard to cater to our needs....
TODAY ( 3rd visit ), im so impressed by him tt i wanted to fill up their feedback form to commend him for the excellent service he rendered... but he said they dun have the forms or sth???

We were given a table which was quite further in today... n wat a coincidence, Calvin was appointed to take care of that section too.... i told him he served us when we were at The Line the previous time... he smiled n said No wonder he found us familiar :)

What he did to impress me today:
1) recommended us their specials.... n helped us place order for a herbal prawn. we din have to move our butt heheheheh
2) when i returned with a plate of sashimi, he noticed i had 4gotten my soy sauce n wasabi, so he asked if i wanted any... i told him ITS FINE, I'LL GET IT
LATER. THANKS. guess wat, he appeared within the next min with my wasabi. Am i impressed or wat!
3) when it was time for dessert, hb took 2 spoons n placed it on his own plate. I din have any spoon on mine.... Calvin took a look n promptly produced a
    dessert spoon!!!

THIS IS WAT I CALL SERVICE!!!! hmmm, muz try to find ways to commend him lor, cos he's the best waiter ive ever seen!!!

The lobster was perfecto! i had ALASKAN CRAB too!! the cooks took onli the 'leg' n sliced it into half, so it was a breeze to eat...sorry ah, im a lazy person, any thing tt nids to peel or watever, i prefer not to eat them.... but hahahah, im being spoilt here :P
Unbelievably fresh!!!! the scallops n sashimi were top notch quality. Scallops were sweet... GOSH, so contrasting to the scallop  which i ate at GRAZE @ ROCHESTER man... the scallops they serve there r bland, n tasted juz like frozen ones!!!   The prawns used in the herbal soup were live ones! no wonder they're so tasty :) Tiramisu was awesome, mango pudding had generous amts of mango... no wonder we're hooked!!! the food here is simply FANTASTIC!
