for sashimi.... ask the waitresses for their Catch of The Day :)

Ah Yat Tian Xia (阿一天下)
Our 1st time here. Cow n I both had this set but we picked 2 dif types of rice dishes.
Verdict: value for money. im not expecting East Ocean kind of quality given tt EO's
set meals per pax can range for $70+ to $140+ ( those we tried ).

Erm, perhaps they cld use pick another kind of serving bowl? this 1 looks real el
cheapo IMO.

Abalone Rice with Soy Sauce. Quite an OK dish. Lovely accompanying dip sauce.

Baked abalone with fried rice. I Dun fancy the burnt bits, so i promptly scraped them
away. The gravy was a lil bland, fried rice was really forgettable.

Dishes come in 2 choices: with or w/o abalone
Similarly, Desserts also come in 2 choices: with or w/o bird's nest.
Hubs ordered 2 with bird's nest. But i muz say they're exorbitant. these 2 bowls cost
him $30, but they come in huge portion. Deserts were not bad :)

AKASHI @ VIVOCITY
FINALLY!!!! FINALLY!!! i hv the appetite to indulge in sashimi!!!
Poor hubs had to acc me to Akashi 3xs within 1 wk juz to satisfy my craving for
it *LOL* The waitresses asked how come we had not patronized them for so
many mths. Well........ i had to explain tt i puking my guts out for 4 mths, now tt
MS had subsided, its time to 'PARTEEE'!!! heheheehe
Juz some random pix....
We hv a habit or ordering the same stuff over n over again. V unadventurous pple.
Hub's Wakatori + my Nigiri Soba set. I love the soba here!!!

This lil bugger was air flown fr Jap n reached the restaurant the very day. So its
uber fresh!!!
ISAKI SASHIMI. $52 for this plate, but i can assure u its the freshest ive ever had!
Excuse me for saying this.... we once had a $100+ sashimi platter at some upscale hotel jap restaurant n the quality doesnt even come near to AKASHI's!

Salmon Belly $25. We've always ordered the normal salmon sashimi, so we decided
to try their salmon belly which cost $5 more. Suffice to say, after the 1st bite ( tog with lots of wahhh, yummmmm, hmmmmm ), we'll be ordering salmon belly in future.
It juz isnt the same :P

Scallop Sashimi. This 1 is dif.... v al dente and... its actually sweet!

The remnants fr the scallop sashimi. V crunchy, but i dare not put the blackish stuff
into my mouth
THE LINE ( SHANGRI-LA )
Maybe Cow n I are getting on in years, we no longer find buffets tt enticing. But tt
doesnt mean we've totally stopped going for them :P
The Line is a place where we'll head to at least twice a yr cos of the variety.
Oh, i didnt even realise they stopped issuing Shang Dollars since mths back....
Oysters---- too heavy handed with the salt. It was Marine Harvest Nite, yet the oysters were hardly 'exciting'

Thankfully, the rest of the dishes were not bad at all

ETNA ITALIAN RESTAURANT
Carrot + Tomato Soup. Love their soups.

Crab Meat Salad. Serving portion was so big, we were almost stuffed by the time
our mains arrived

We also ordered Risotto alla Marinara & Norma Pizza. Sorry no pix of these as
i was too hungry by then to rem to snap away :P
PU TIEN @ TAMPINES MALL
my folks r fans of this restaurant. Waitress asked if we wanted
to try their HAIRY CRABS since its in season now.... at $38 each,
they're pricey, not to mention, DARN SMALL.... but hubs ordered
2 to try.

2 waitresses spent almost 5 mins preparing the 2 plates below.
Not an easy job fr wat i witnessed. tts y im not into crabs.... i
like fuss free food :P

Had dinner with Hubs @ Akashi ( Paragon ) a few days ago...
as usual, when we entered the place, 1 waitress went, '' Eh, never
bring yr daughter today? '' Wah, how come everytime we visit
Akashi or Akashabu ( 1st time ), the waitresses will all ask abt the
monster??? so infamous already neh *LOL*
( A NEW FAVE )
Visited some new eateries over the week ( for dinner )....
( OVERDOSE ON JAP FOOD )Due to the F1 race & road closures along the Marina Bay area, hubs n I
tried to avoid those areas this week....... so we ended up in....
1) Akashabu Japanese Restaurant (by Akashi)
When we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by 2
familiar faces.... turns out they were waitresses fr Akashi in Vivocity
and Paragon. The 1st thing they asked was WHERE'S YR GIRL?
*lol* looks like Monster left an indelible mark on them... or was it
she's 'infamous' :P
Anyway, this new dining establishment by Akashi focuses on steamboat.
I was quite disappointed tt the menu is totally new and i cant order my
usual favourites... BUT.... hubs n I had such a great meal there, we're
SO GOING to bring the girl back for another visit :)
AKASHABU doesnt disappoint...

Surprise surprise, we do serve sashimi afterall... well, some diners who do not like raw stuff may prefer to dip the raw fish into the boiling water....

Assorted Tempura

What hubs ordered for steamboat....
Chicken

Hubs scooped them intomeatballs n put them into the boiling water.
Oysters, Mushrooms, and Kurobuta Pork

The oysters were so fresh, we ordered a 2nd serving. Also ordered Smoked Duck ( tastes like Bacon when dipped in the soup ) and Prawns ( added the heads into the soup ). Soup was so flavourful!

and Sotong

The Dips : Top ( sesame dip ) Bottom: ( Vinaigrette ) Love both dips!

Truth was, i was quite reluctant to try this eatery initially as ive never really liked steamboat. Hubs persuaded me to give it a try, n thank goodness i did :) We polished off the whole pot of soup. Quite a feat for me neh!
Bill for the meal came up to slightly over a hundred. But it was gd eating :)
I know i shdnt be so greedy, but when we emerged fr the restaurant, i saw
this new Yoghurt PLace.... I cldnt resist

DELiiiiiiiiiiiiiish
2) SHOKUDO @ Raffles City Shopping Centre(RCSC)
I had to make a trip down to LVMH @ RCSC bcos my Tag Heuer
LINK needed a change of batt. Since i was there, i also asked them
to take a look at my F1 Diamond. F1 Tag was fine, but i paid $35 for
a new batt for my Link.... hey, Link is a ruggard watch... Ever since
hubs got it for me at Mount Titlis in Dec 03 ( on our Honeymoon ),
ive not changed its batt since then.... After that, we walked ard B1 for
a makan place... Hubs was quite attracted to Shokudo after i told him
the concept is exactly the same as Marche.....
I did warn him tt during my 1st visit, Janet n I found tt the food wasnt
really up to standard.....
These were what we ordered ...

The salmon and scallop sashimi were good. The curry pork cutlet set was ok. When i ordered the Gyoza, the 'chef' had a plate ready and he simply gave it to me. I told him i wanted a 'fresh' plate... Instead, he reheated them for me in the pan. RELUCTANTLY some more. Seriously folks, i think they failed in their service here. The Gyoza tastes HORRIBLE.
Out of the 3 drinks, only the green melon soft drink was nice.
This Oyster Hot Pot was good. Soup was flavourful.

The ROSTI... wat can i say? Way Way inferior to Marche's version.

The Rum & Raisin Ice cream was alrite... but the red bean cheesecake was
YUCKY!

Hubs paid $80 for our meal. We had quantity but not much quality to begin with. I tot they wld redeem themselves in my 2nd visit.... they let me down
AGAIN.
Hmmm, tried to do some shopping, but unfortunately, nothing caught my eye at the usual shops. I wanted a dress fr French Connection, but it hasnt arrived yet *sigh*
3) ICHIBAN SUSHI

I had the pork belly set ( with spicy vinaigrette dressing ) while hubs had the prawns wrapped with Bacon set. We both enjoyed our sets tremendously :)
4) ZICHAR
we needed a break fr Jap food....so we settled for Zichar at this stall along
Tanjong Katong Rd. We ordered Seaweed Soup, Fried Youtiao, Hotplate Venison and a Sanbei Chicken. Yummy food!

This is my very 1st Mother's Day Gift fr Darling Girl.
Okie, her contribution is minimal, but at least she did
stick those tape, leaves n straws on her own *LOL*

She woke me up this morning by softly calling MAMA.... then juz as i opened
my eyes, she smiled so sweetly n widely....Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
Motherhood is so rewarding and im really blessed to hv a great family.
I give thanks everyday :)
Helper is on leave today so she cldnt join us for lunch.... hubs brought us
to Vivocity.... my mom said she doesnt mind eating Jap so we headed for
Sushi Tei... but a long Q had formed by the time we got there... too bad,
hence we had lunch at Akashi which was almost running full house...
Isaki Sashimi

Cod

Unagi

Tonkatsu

Wakatori
1) Warehouse
2) Topshop
3) Zara
I used to pop into River Island, but lately their clothes dun seem
tt attractive, so i skipped it totally this time round.
Nothing I fancied at WH or TS, so i didnt carry much hope of
getting sth fr ZARA.... but i was so wrong!

I like the upper n lower part of the dress :P
I was intrigued by the HAMPENGLANG ( translated as jumbled ) LOOK :P
2 dif prints + V Neck + Purplish 'Cut-Outs' ?? im sold!! Its a sheer top btw

Dinner @ AKASHI
Unbelievably fresh
I had Tonkatsu, while hubs went for Cod
Hubs ordered this for the 1st time..... FISH HEAD SOUP.
I was expecting a huge bowl of soup with a huge fish head as well *hahaha*
When it arrived, i went HUH?

Ard the size of a Jap rice bowl.
1st look resembled sharksfin soup, but this soup contains Salmon Fish Head.
Other ingredients are: Beansprout n some thick jelly like vermicelli,
Doesnt look promising in the bowl, but 1 sip was all it took for me to be a fan :P
1 reason why hubs n I love to shop/dine @ vivo is...u can.convert your spending
dollars into points which can be used to redeem for parking.
I claimed $7 for parking juz with my Zara purchase and the meal @ Akashi yest.
Parking cost approb $3.5 yest, so i still hv $ left in my card.
Quite a saving !
Hubs is an extremely LOYAL customer/diner..... he AGAIN suggested AKASHI
when i gave him other dining choices @ vivo.... he was running late as he
volunteered to send a patient fr PRC back to his hotel @ Orchard......
We were almost halfway thru our meals when he arrived.....
Akashi's our fave Jap restaurant, n its been sometime since we
last patronised them, so when hubs suggested going to Vivo,
i immediately jumped on the chance to makan there :)
Salmon n Snapper Sashimi... nothing but the freshest catch is
served here...
We also ordered Saba Shioyaki + rice, Nabeyaki Udon Set, Wakadori Set
& a Tonkatsu Set

Meal for 4 adults came up to $143. The plate of sashimi alone costs
$45 but still we think its a v reasonable price to pay for the superb
quality.... ( we paid $100+ juz for a plate of sashimi over @ SHIRAISHI,
but felt Akashi's stuff can really give them a run for their money :P )
Finally saw the Singapore Flyer @ Night... never knew it had already
been lighted up!!
KALEIDOSCOPE OF COLOURS....

My girl was so excited upon seeing it, she went '' MERRY-GO-ROUND! '' :P
I can't believe it.... I havent updated for a wk!!! very out of character ( 4 me ) hor? :P
was thoroughly bogged down/swamped by work this wk... had to pop a few panadols to
ease my tension headaches. BUT IM GLAD THE HORRIBLE WK HAS FINALLY
PASSED..... thank gdness, to retain my sanity this wk, hubs brought me out for meals
( u know lah, when i get to eat good food, not necessarily exp food, i dun feel so
grouchy ) *LOL* I oso got to shop.. REAL QUICK. wats new :P Im the grab n go type :P
So pls bear with me, cos im gonna swamp this post with pix *HEE*
SHOPPING
MEET MY 'NEW ' OMELETTE'' DRESS FR KATE MOSS@TOPSHOP

( wearing my new No concept but Good Sense shoes )
Topshop/Warehouse is having their mid term sales BUT im never lucky during sales...
the stuff being displayed simply dun interest me *sigh* always end up with new arrivals...
http://www.topshop.com/webapp/wcs/stores/s
Puffy sleeves r in this season ( or so i read ), its great for me, cos can hide my fat arms :P
FLORAL TOP N BLACK JEANS FR ICE LEMON TREE
the top did look nice @ the shop, butafter i got home, i was thinking, is it a lil OTT??? florals + polkadots... oh well, luckily
i bot black jeans to go with it :P
TUNIC FR THE TRUNK SHOW

got it in beige cos the black version din flatter my skin tone
EATING
KAM BOAT@ SHAW CENTRE. Hubs brought the whole family there for dinner last Sunday

Kam boat has a rather gd dim sum selection... we ordered custard bun, por lor bao,
steamed carrot cake ( THIS IS A MUZ TRY! im addicted to it ), panfried carrot cake,
feng zhao, siew york+char siew, prawn with mango roll, seafood
noodle soup, horfun, and 2 BUDDHA JUMPS OVER THE WALL.
EUNOS ZICHAR
its the 1st time we're trying this zichar stall... it is located juz beside my fave Eunos Bak
Chor Mee stall ( which btw, standards have dipped ). It was so crowded, i think we
waited for 20 minutes...
These are a few of their signature dishes... Black Pepper Venison, Fried Sotong,
and Fried Brinjal with Pork Floss. I tot the black pepper venison wld be v spicy..
but it wasnt. In fact, meat was super tender, while the generous serving of black pepper
merely added some fragrance to the dish ( i tot it wld overkill, but NO )...
The Brinjal with Pork Floss dish was unique n Soooooo Tasty!
As for the fried sotong, machiam eating calamari...
WILL DEF REVISIT THIS PLACE COS I DA BAO FOR MY PARENTS, EVEN THEY
LIKE THE FOOD!
HAN KA RAM KOREAN RESTAURANT @ HEEREN
we ordered their set meal for 2 pax.

Ginseng Soup..enuf for 4 bowls actualli..Strange... why did they add rice into the soup??
The spicy pork was v tasty!
Kimchi was woah!
I like the Fried Popiah, a lil spicy and the skin is fried till crunchy. The sweet n sour
chix was gd too.
Overall, above average rating.
CENTRAL HK CAFE

Chix Soup, Seafood Crispy Noodle, Century Egg Fried Rice.
Value for $ food..
AKASHI
our fave restaurant. We never fail to order their sashimi whenever
we're here. This time round, we let the chef prepare an assorted sushi
selection for us.

This dish alone costs $90, but wat u get here is top notch quality... juz look
at the translucence of the pieces... The most exp item here is the TORO. The fats simply
melts in yr mouth!!! OMG this is so addictive!

Hubs came back early today n brought the girl, helper n I to Paragon for dinner.
Truth be told, Im getting VERY SICK of AKASHI now... its not tt i hiam their food,
but rather we're eating it so often, my stomach does turn a little when the name
is mentioned.... but GIMME their SASHIMI ANYTIME!
I din have the heart to suggest another place to hubs since he loves the place ...
Dont get me wrong, AKASHI SERVES GREAT FOOD! We ordered a new sashimi-- SNAPPER
It comes with its special/ vinegar like sauce... fresh, but i still prefer the rest....

Hubs brought IN LAWS n us to Paragon for dinner.... no pix of wat my ILs n SIL r eating.... cos paiseh
to snap their food... infact, i din wan to snap pix at AKASHI... but surprisingly, Hubs was the one who
egged me on *LOLOL*
We always order the same ole boring stuff.... except we do change the sashimi fr time to time....
tho their SALMON SASHIMI is always our fave, we always took the opp to try their seasonal fish.
SARDINE SASHIMI

we will never fail to order sashimi whenever we dine at AKASHI....
The salmon sashimi here costs $20 for 5 pcs... but its so fresh so sweet, its a MUZ ORDER everytime we're there. Occasionally, they have seasonal fishes like SEA BREAM or HORSE MACKEREL.... for the horse mackerel, we dip the sashimi in soy sauce n ginger... SWEET!

We're regulars at AKASHI PARAGON N VIVOCITY. The nice waitresses even rem my girl's name..... these kind jiejie will even help entertain her sometimes! *LOL* B4 hubs knew me, he never liked Jap food. I still rem our 1st time tog in a Jap restaurant, i asked if he wanted to eat sashimi... his DAO ans? I DON'T EAT RAW STUFF..... but after a few yrs of 'training' our frd has not only graduated to LOVING Jap food, but he muz have SASHIMI EVERYTIME WE DINE AT A JAP RESTAURANT! we're jap food lovers :P

The HOrse Mackerel is boney, but the meat is soooo sweet!
