My 1st time @ Bliss Spa.

Lovely set up isnt it? You'll feel rite @ home in this cheery looking spa
U get to watch dvds like Desperate Housewives or Ugly Betty while
enjoying the services.. There's a conveyor belt ( middle of the pix ) which
displays Bliss Pdts. Ingenious way of promoting their stuff dun u think?

1st timers wld be asked to fill up a questionaire.... You'll be served brownies n lemonade
while waiting for yr treatments.

I had a Hot Stone Pedi done b4 my facial. okie, i was a little amused by the
fact tt I was told to soak my foot in a basin filled with hot water..... n STONES!
*LOL* all was forgiven when the manicurist started working on my toes.
Sheree was patient and explained the various pdts ( which smelt HEAVENLY
btw ) she used on me along the way. I didnt like the Essie polishes, so i
used my own OPI Crimson Carol. By the end of the session, I think i
fell in love with every bliss pdt tt she used on me *Hahahah*
They seriously evoke a sense of well-being.

The facial cabin

Next, I did a Triple Oxygen Facial and I did an add-on mask ( Bilberry n Vit C
Seaweed Mask ).
Abel the beautician had worked in the Remede Spa @ St Regis prior to
joining Bliss. She was skilful and explained the various steps along the way.

1) Fruit Enzyme Mask ( left it on while she massaged my shoulders )
2) O2 Cream ( sealed with cling wrap so as to enhance the absorption,
left it on while she massaged my shoulders )
3) Toner
4) Extractions
5) Toner
6) O2 spray ( she moved the cool air slowly across my face. I was told
O2 will kill the bacteria )
7) Bilberry Mask ( left it on while she gave me a head massage )

I hope i didnt miss out any steps.... it was pure INDULGENCE!!!!
My skin glowed n i didnt need to apply MU cos I love how my skin
looked... B4 the treatment, i had dull, congested skin.... even after the
extractions, the redness was soothed by the cold bilberry mask.

I had a great ME time @ Bliss Spa, methinks I will be back for more
in future :)

When we brought Missy to Taka to catch the Hi 5 show, I walked past
Sephora n noticed tt they were having a promotion:
spend $240 n get a $40 voucher....
so?
i bought 4 Dior foundations @ $265 n got the voucher. I had another $20
voucher ( rec'd it almost a month back when i bot the Bliss Pdts ) which
was expiring in a days time, hence, i quickly grabbed an OPI colour, 3
Burts Bee shampoo and a chapstick.... with my $60 voucher, i only
topped up $25!!! How nice is tt?

Our 3rd n final Staycation for the yr 2009:

It was supposed to be a 1N stay, but sensing how much the kid
is enjoying herself, Papa extended the stay by another day

We were holed up in the Suite or the Club Lounge most of the time bcos:
1) Papa rec'd a last min notice abt a presentation on Mon... so he was
bz working on his slides over the wkend
2) The kid refused to leave the hotel!!! I only managed to drag her out
to Taka twice ( juz to watch the hi5 show ) and 313 ( we had juz
made our way into 313 Somerset when she was already bugging me
to 'return to the hotel room pls, Mama' )

Cow brought me to this place after his boss gave them a treat here a day earlier. He liked the food enuf and wanted to bring me here to try it for
myself. V Sweet of him, except he cannot rem the way and we were circling
in Bukit Timah for almost 45 mins b4 we FINALLY found the place.

As we were abt to enter the restaurant, i noticed 2 sets of name cards...
1 was for Vis-a-Vis, the other for SupSip Thai Restaurant. Hmmm,
I was quite curious abt the Thai restaurant as the signboard stated
Vis-a-Vis...... When we walked in, we were told we cld order fr the
French or Thai menu. We decided on French.

The bread basket acc by a generous serving of butter

Honey Lime and Strawberry(sth). I love my Honey Lime,
really refreshing, unlike most of the honey lime's ive tried.
This one was outstanding. The Strawberry was a tad too
sweet for my liking ( n i like sweet stuff :P )

vis-à-vis house salad.
The tangy balsamic dressing worked very well with the rest of the ingredients.
In fact, we loved the dressing so much, we used a slice of bread n mopped up the sauce.

Salmon ( only seared at the bottom ) with avocado
I didnt quite like this dish.... I found the salmon a lil 'soggy'?
It didnt go too well with the avocado.....

Black Caviar

Wild Mushroom n Truffle Soup
The owner Jeremy was a very nice guy. He advised us to get a portion
of the soup to share as he thinks we wld hv over ordered had we asked for
2 servings.

I just wanted to say that THIS IS THE BEST MUSHROOM SOUP I'VE
EVER HAD!! consistency is just right and the black truffle added
a hint of aroma to the outstanding mushroom soup. Truly UNForgettable

Duck Confit with Pastry Roll stuffed with Apples

duck meat was amazingly tender. The crispy skin itself is a winner, but when acc by the sauce, this dish simply blew me away!!

Pan baked Apple Roll

De-boned Pigeon stuffed with foie gras.
This dish just didnt gel with me. The meat itself was gd, and deboning it was a good idea.... I like foie gras, but somehow, the combo didnt quite work.... i enjoyed my peas n mushrooms with the sauce though.

Chocolate Torte. Jeremy told us to order 1 dessert as their serving portion is
rather huge. Ive tried choc molten cakes before, but this one seriously
topped everyone of them. Jeremy explained tt the cake consists of 2 layers:
1 coffee & 1 choc layer.... n tt it is best eaten tog with the banana...
I finished my cake with lots of 'Oooooh....Ahhhhhh!' in btn :P

The homemade rum and raisin ice-cream deserves a mention on its own.
Strong in taste and delighting us all the way.

After we had our dessert, Jeremy treated us to some home-made chocs...
They were seriously yummy!

Total Damage: $198.
Despite some misses, I like the impeccable service here and the
STRONG 'hits' ... so i forsee a return visit in the near future :)

THE NEW CHATTERBOX @ MERITUS MANDARIN HOTEL

Poor Chatterbox was moved fr Level 1 to 39 and now
permanently down to Level 5 after the reno. Its a long
walk fr the main lift lobby and having a dingy entrance
doesnt help with things. Those coming in fr Mandarin
Gallery will hv an easier time locating the place as an
escalator leads rite up to the restaurant itself.

Frankly speaking, i prefer the 2 older locations..
When I was a child, my parents/aunt+uncle will bring my
cousins n I to Chatterbox (level 1)occasionally for supper
( yes supper *Lol* ) and i rem collecting those
cocktail .figurines/jugs during CNY or Xmas....
Gd Memories.

When they shifted to Level 39, the panoramic view was
breathtaking esp @ nite, but the Chix rice somehow didnt
taste as gd as when the eatery was 'grounded' . My fren
Cat joked tt perhaps the cook was distracted when he was
'up there' *lol*

1 gripe: WHY DID THEY REMOVE SAGO GULA MELAKA FR THE MENU???????

IMPERIAL TREASURE SUPER PEKING DUCK RESTAURANT @ PARAGON

This less than a month old restaurant had an impressive Centrepiece in the middle of the dining hall. IT's latest offering can rival Crystal Jade Golden Palace ( which is on the opp end of the Paragon ). Prices here are a tad higher than their normal branches, methinks the price wld be on par with their Crowne Plaza branch at T3?

Since this is a 'SUPER PEKING DUCK'' restaurant, we juz got to try their
signature dish.... In most restaurants, u get to order either half or a whole duck.
But over here, u can only order a whole duck ($68). PLUS, the entire duck wld be sliced n served on the spot, unlike some places where u can get an extra plate
of dish cooked with the remaining meat.

The master @ work

The chef 1st placed a few pcs of the peking duck skin on a plate which we
were told to dip with sugar. Amazingly aromatic/crispy.

Next up, the following 2 plates were served

The plate on the left had more fats underneath the skin whereas the plate on
the right is more meaty. Little Girl loved the skin n meat so much, she gobbled
up quite a bit of it. A feat considering how fussy she is abt food. Of cos, coating the skin in sugar was fun for her as well.

My DIY roll comprising of : thin pancakes, spring onions, cucumbers
and hoisin sauce.

Our fave old cucumber with seafood soup

A slice of Abalone n Sea Cucumber. The Abalone was FORGETTABLE
tho i enjoyed the sea cucumber. East Ocean or Ah Yat's Abalone
dishes r way betta.

Salad Prawn. V well executed.

Verdict: The Peking Duck did not disappoint... in fact, l MAY juz return for the
duck alone. Do go early for dinner. When the crowd started streaming
in ard 7pm, they were severely understaffed. I had to stand up just
to catch the attention of a waiter.
They forgot our dessert orders, n after waiting for 10mins, I got
someone to check on our orders. A captain simply told us that
we DID NOT order desserts, no apologies offered. The waiter on
the other hand apologised profusely to us. The captain seemed
more interested in serving those regulars (he cld greet them by
name). It's our 1st visit here and its the 1st time we've been let
down by IT's service.... Over @ Imperial Treasure's Crowne Plaza
eatery, the boss himself wld greet each n every guest. Hubby joked
tt we're betta off @ East Ocean. That's why East Ocean is our
FAVE chinese restaurant. Oh, the other being LEI GARDENS
@ Chijmes which shd be reopening soon after a facelift.

Total bill for the dinner came up to $225.

Cow has been lusting after the HTC HD2 since a mth ago...... He finally got his wish when
M1 ( lovely customer service ) had a soft launch @ M1 Paragon last wkend.

Xmas gifts fr M1... A cute ceramic mug and n spoon M1 was having a promo.... we got
3 mobile modems for abt the same subscription price as he's paying per mth for his lines,
so y not? If he had to incur additional costs, then i wld say NO.

HTC has 'downsized' their packaging.... v neat yet environmentally friendly*thumbs up*

HD2 cost $838 with the $28 plan/mth. He went for the $48 plan and M1 shaved $100 off the RRP.
He traded in HTC TOUCHPRO 2 for $400 and only had to top up $338 for his new baby.

My Samsung Omnia i8910 or HD on the left, his HD2 on the right.

They're bt the same height, but HD2 has a bigger screen than Omnia HD.

HD2 is considered VERY SLIM for a HTC phone. I love
the matte cover... I dun think Cow intends to use the Invisible Shield on this phone...
As for HD2's screen, i dun think he nids a screen protector anyway.... Check THIS out

MY BEAUTY DIARY MASK REVIEW + THE 'FAKE' VERSION

I bot the 'fake' ( aka My Beauty Diary Mask look-alike ) masks
@ Watsons b4 i finally saw the Real Deal @ Guardian.....

12 pcs per box @ $15.90.

I did not experience any skin irritations while using the 'Fake' ones...
It is made in PRC but i tot the Cooling Mask worked betta for me than
My Beauty Diary(MBD)'s Cooling Mask. MBD's stung my face big time.
As for the 'Fake' White Rose Mask, it didnt smell as gd as MBD's.

15 pcs for $24.90. Limited Edition Pack. Normal packs are selling for
$16 or $17 for 10 pcs.

Its fun having to try out each of the 15 masks. Since there's only 1 of each type of mask in the package, I could only review based on whether the masks
were suitable for my Sensitive Skin.

Hubs n I are nasi lemak fans. When we stumbled upon Grandma's
@ Paragon, we decided to try it out....

Papa n Myself ordered 2 Nasi Lemak ( $8.90 each ) and a Shrimp+Petai.

Nasi lemak--- erm, where's my chilli? Im a nasi lemak chilli fan... w/o it, the
dish seemed a lil incomplete? The coconut rice was uber
fragrant, achar had kick, but the chix lacked OMPH. I still prefer
my nasi lemak fr Changi Village, Adam Rd or even Chatterbox.

Petai Shrump--- ABSOULTELY MY FAVE!!! nevermind the bad breath after tt *LOL

Curry Fish Head. I tot it was inexp @ $28.80. U get a huge claypot of it, with lots of veges n tao pok. Its was Gooooood

Fish n Chips for the girl. A non-oily, crispy batter. Fish was smooth..
However, i tot the batter was blah in the taste dept.

Chendol and Sago Gula Melaka @ $3.80 each.
Desserts here are considered inexpensive, but i tot the Sago Gula
Melaka pales in comparison to the one i've had at Chatterbox.
I know Chatterbox's version is more exp, but still, i can't derive
satisfaction fr Grandma's version.

EAST OCEAN TEOCHEW RESTAURANT SET MENU

We were surprised to see this menu which was introd 2 wks ago....
The Jumbo Abalone (South Africa) Set Menu for 2 at $288++

we've tried most of their set menus, so Cow went for this.

Smoked Duck: B4 the dish arrived, i seriously doubt this dish wld be tt appetising...
I had expected the smoked duck to be salty, a lil hard even... but i was
totally mistaken! The duck itself was so fragrant, the meat was
tender and the skin.... crispy n moist!
I was told to pair the duck with Onion.... i hate onions, but then, never
say never rite? Wow, the onion sure complimented the meat!

I def underestimated this dish

The halved Jumbo Abalone. The biggest ive had so far ( even tho it has been halved ).
East Ocean really does abalone well... the other place which i enjoyed Abalone was at
Ah Yat's...

King Prawn Noodle
I'm still not eating for two ( n i dun think i shd either )... by the time this dish
arrived, I had to 'donate' the noodles to Hubby. The Prawn was sweet... but
I was feeling quite jelart after the 1st 3 dishes, so i didnt quite enjoy the food.

Another winning set fr East Ocean... looking 4ward to their new offerings!

1st impresion: Lots of wait staff.... Table were too close for comfort

Read on the menu tt they get their ss fr Tsukiji Fish Mkt... so i was eager to try their
sashimi....

Verdict: The sashimi platter was faultless, even betta than some of those
i've tried ( more or less on par with Akashi's ) ....
But the other dishes were quite forgettable.....

Lobster Salad. Not Bad

Bamboo Clam. This was way betta than East Ocean's version!!!
I love it so much...its more tender than EO's and the sauce tasted betta too

Miso Cod. Erm, dun quite like the cod... too sweet for my liking.
Love the onion rings tho

Roasted Pork with Tofu ( stuffed with cheese ). The siew york
was gd ( with a nice sweet sauce ) but i tot the tofu was quite
blah

Hubby seems to be craving for Hairy Crabs recently.... kept bugging me to try
this set ever since he read abt it in the papers.....

The Hairy Crab Set @ $118 per pax.

Braised sharksfin with 3 small abalone

check out the colour of
the tasty/flavourful soup. Yuuuuuuum!

East Ocean's hairy crab is
def more worth it than the 1 which we had at Putien... There was so much roe
in it, i felt a lil pukey after savouring it.. can't waste food since it cost so much :P

Crab Roe Paste Noodles. By the time i got to this dish, i was stuffed to the brim.
I had to 'donate' it to Cow...

Hairy crabs are supposed to be 'yin' in nature, hence we were served a pot of Ginger
Tea when the crabs arrived.... Dessert was a Glutinous Sesame Rice ball with ginger
tea.

Hairy Crabs are only in season ard Oct/Nov or so i was told by the Captain,
so we'll be back next yr for another round :)

We've been here twice and here's wat we ordered.... The food did not
blow me away, but it was good enough and at reasonable prices, it
sure was packing in the crowd.

Picked these up @ Sephora ION......

The scrub has particles which r bigger n more gentle than Kiehl's
Epidermal Retexturizing Micro Dermabrasion scrub, so i alternate
btn both. I like the scrub and a lil goes a long way, lightly fragranced too.
Skin felt clean and supple n pores seemed to be less obvious these days
( perhaps the 2 pdts work well for me )

The Triple Oxygen Mask was fun to use..... I pumped some peachy gel-like
liquid onto my palms, then spread it on my face. Within seconds, a froth
had formed!! I leave it on for bt 5-10 mins.... During this time, i cld feel
the foam sliding down... but when i looked into the mirror, it wasn't 'moving'
down, but it has disappeared.... The citrusy smell was pleasant and Face
does look brighter after a few uses...

Its my 1st time @ Min Jiang GdWdPark and Cow's 2nd. He attended
a Symposium @ the restaurant few days earlier n was pretty impressed
by the food. He din hv to pay, yet gets to enjoy the $80 per head
dinner. We tried to drag the Little Girl along, but woah, she has a mind
of her own now, she prefers doing 'her own things' to lunching with
her parents :P

龙井茶 or Dragonwell Tea
Gd quality tea here ( not many restaurants here serve Long Jing ). $8 per pax.
This teapot holds tea-for-two

The Dim Sum.
Not bad i must say, aint the best though. 1 gripe: the XLB tore ( with the precious
soup drained ).... This has never happened in CJ or IT ( imperial treasure ) or
DTF ( Din Tai Fung ).

The Sharksfin Set. Hmmm, i was surprised the fins n soup were separated...
The waitress explained tt their individual dishes were gd enuf to eat on their own.
This, I muz agree. The soup reminded me of consommé, richly flavoured, while the
fins were topped with crabmeat, tasteful and gd.

Half a Peking Duck yielded these:
Skin was cut n pre-rolled in the dish below. The rest of the meat
went into the fried mee. I've never eaten mee with so much
meat!! No seriously, i got abit jelart fr all tt duck meat... it was juz
too much. So how does the Peking Duck here as compared to its
other branch @ One Rochester?

GWP's version: Crispier Skin, Drier Meat
1 Roch's version: Less Crispy Skin, more fragrant ( muz be due
to the Applewood Oven ), Succulent Meat

Grazed Honey Pork. The meat disintergrates after u poke the knife in.... its tt
tender.

For dessert, we ordered a Sea Coconut with Sago ice-cream, and
Mango Sago Pomelo with Vanilla Icecream. Both were delish!

Ah Yat Tian Xia (阿一天下)

Our 1st time here. Cow n I both had this set but we picked 2 dif types of rice dishes.
Verdict: value for money. im not expecting East Ocean kind of quality given tt EO's
set meals per pax can range for $70+ to $140+ ( those we tried ).

Erm, perhaps they cld use pick another kind of serving bowl? this 1 looks real el
cheapo IMO.

Abalone Rice with Soy Sauce. Quite an OK dish. Lovely accompanying dip sauce.

Baked abalone with fried rice. I Dun fancy the burnt bits, so i promptly scraped them
away. The gravy was a lil bland, fried rice was really forgettable.

Dishes come in 2 choices: with or w/o abalone

Similarly, Desserts also come in 2 choices: with or w/o bird's nest.

Hubs ordered 2 with bird's nest. But i muz say they're exorbitant. these 2 bowls cost
him $30, but they come in huge portion. Deserts were not bad :)

Poor hubs had to acc me to Akashi 3xs within 1 wk juz to satisfy my craving for
it *LOL* The waitresses asked how come we had not patronized them for so
many mths. Well........ i had to explain tt i puking my guts out for 4 mths, now tt
MS had subsided, its time to 'PARTEEE'!!! heheheehe

Hub's Wakatori + my Nigiri Soba set. I love the soba here!!!

This lil bugger was air flown fr Jap n reached the restaurant the very day. So its
uber fresh!!!

ISAKI SASHIMI. $52 for this plate, but i can assure u its the freshest ive ever had!
Excuse me for saying this.... we once had a $100+ sashimi platter at some upscale hotel jap restaurant n the quality doesnt even come near to AKASHI's!

Salmon Belly $25. We've always ordered the normal salmon sashimi, so we decided
to try their salmon belly which cost $5 more. Suffice to say, after the 1st bite ( tog with lots of wahhh, yummmmm, hmmmmm ), we'll be ordering salmon belly in future.
It juz isnt the same :P

Scallop Sashimi. This 1 is dif.... v al dente and... its actually sweet!

The remnants fr the scallop sashimi. V crunchy, but i dare not put the blackish stuff
into my mouth

THE LINE ( SHANGRI-LA )

Maybe Cow n I are getting on in years, we no longer find buffets tt enticing. But tt
doesnt mean we've totally stopped going for them :P
The Line is a place where we'll head to at least twice a yr cos of the variety.
Oh, i didnt even realise they stopped issuing Shang Dollars since mths back....

Oysters---- too heavy handed with the salt. It was Marine Harvest Nite, yet the oysters were hardly 'exciting'

Thankfully, the rest of the dishes were not bad at all

Carrot + Tomato Soup. Love their soups.

Crab Meat Salad. Serving portion was so big, we were almost stuffed by the time
our mains arrived

We also ordered Risotto alla Marinara & Norma Pizza. Sorry no pix of these as
i was too hungry by then to rem to snap away :P

PU TIEN @ TAMPINES MALL

my folks r fans of this restaurant. Waitress asked if we wanted
to try their HAIRY CRABS since its in season now.... at $38 each,
they're pricey, not to mention, DARN SMALL.... but hubs ordered
2 to try.

2 waitresses spent almost 5 mins preparing the 2 plates below.
Not an easy job fr wat i witnessed. tts y im not into crabs.... i
like fuss free food :P

INTERNATIONAL A CAPPELLA FESTIVAL 14 -18OCT

The A Cappella Society would like to invite you to our International A Cappella Festival for 2009.

The Festival will take place at the Esplanade Recital Studio and The Arts House Chamber. It will be spread over a period of 5 days, beginning on the 14th of October 2009 and ending on the 18th of October 2009.

The International A Cappella Festival will showcase performances from 4 different foreign groups compromising of Permanent Fish from Japan, Rock 4 from The Netherlands, MayTree from Korea and Tux from The Philippines. This year’s line up of a cappella teams features a variety of musical styles with rock music from Queen, Police & Sting by Rock 4 (Netherlands), Pop from Permanent Fish (Japan), Korean Pop from MayTree and the golden oldies and familiar favorites from Tux (Philippines).
